"MIZE REUNION
2008
This year’s reunion was total success we had around 125 people come some on Saturday and most on Sunday. On Saturday we had a spaghetti dinner, karaoke, dominoes, and cards it was a total blast. Sunday we awoke to donuts, oatmeal, cereal, orange juice, and milk. This year’s potluck was the best yet with smoked turkey, brisket, ham, and ribs. A special thanks to an extension of our family Jason and Julie Lawrence for smoking the meats everyone brought. After Lunch we all gathered for a group picture (boy was it tough to gather everyone for that) and the 4th annual Mize Family Auction. We all had a good visit before the auction. This year we raised $670 counting the donations and auction proceeds, enough to do it again next year. Some small changes to next year’s reunion (for the better) I will explain on the on tap page. If you missed this year’s reunion I encourage you to make next years.
M.I.A.
We had several that for various reasons that could not make it to this year’s reunion. Most notable was Terry Mize’s family and O.W. Mize’s family Terry and O.W. both had unplanned illness’. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and we all hope to see them and their families at next year’s reunion. Anyone else that couldn’t make it we hope that life is well and that you also make it. This year’s reunion was a little sad for some of us that had lost loved ones prior to the reunion. I know it really hit home for me my mother Billie J. Mize passed away shortly after last year’s reunion and that was the last time I saw her alive at last year’s reunion. It really made it clear to me the importance of having this event every year, you just can never tell when the maker is going to call you home and we need to make the most of the time we have here together. We all have jobs and lives of our own that we get caught up in, but we need to make the time to gather up each year, it is only 2-3 days out of 365 day year, which leaves us 362 days for our busy lives. This is why I am dedicating this year’s M.I.A. article to those that have gone on before us. We will miss them and will keep their memories alive in our hearts.
Hat’s off
This year I am doing the Hat’s off article on a woman that has grown close to my heart and is truly an inspiration to me and her family. Her name is Norma Kuecken (hope I spelt it right). For 20 years she helped keep family and loved ones in touch at the reunion held at Greenleaf State Park by Gore, Ok by dedicating herself to it, which is no small task I have to tell you. She has fought through sickness and continues to fight it and even though she was less than 100% this year, she still found the strength to make it to the reunion. This is one of the things that inspire me to make sure that the reunion goes on. Norma knows the importance of family and friends. We could all learn a little from Norma by taking a page from her life and applying it to our own. God bless you Norma Kuecken ! Our prayers and love is with you.
